Critical Appraisal of Research Evidence in the Field of Women's Empowerment in order to Participate in Urban Development

Aims and Backgrounds: The desired quality of a research paper is the main condition for its use in practice. Therefore, this study was conducted to investigate the quality of published studies on womenchr('39')s empowerment in order to participate in urban development. According to the theoretical literature and contemporary world experiences, sustainable and comprehensive development depends on the participation of all gender groups, age groups and minorities. Empowerment is a process that prepares women to participate in development. The present study was conducted to critically evaluate the research evidence of womenchr('39')s empowerment in order to participate in urban development.
Methodology: This research is a cross-sectional descriptive study. In this critical appraisal articles in GoogleScholar and ScienceDirect databases as well as Persian databases, (SID, magiran and noormags) from 1990 to 2020 were searched with the keywords "participation", "women" and "empowerment" or a combination of these words. As a result of the systematic analysis of articles, 14 articles related to womenchr('39')s participation in urban development were critically evaluated. The quality of articles was evaluated by CASP checklist and its items were performed in five areas. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics.
Results: Only one of the 14 articles reviewed had all the required features in the CASP checklist. 71.4% of the articles didnchr('39')t provide explanations in the research subject criteria. Only 25% of the articles complied with the research design items. The criteria for selecting participants was observed in 39.29% of articles. Data collection and analysis was observed in 45.25% of articles and the criteria of findings were observed in 47.62% of articles.
Conclusion: Overall, 36% of the articles had shortcomings in terms of critical evaluation criteria. Deficiencies in justifying the research design, data collection and analysis tools, and expressing the research methodology were common deficiencies in the studies under study.
